Akpabio Charges Pharmacists On Best Practice

Pharmacists and other categories of health care givers have been urged to keep abreast with the latest trend in modern health care delivery.
Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio gave the charge on the occasion of the official commissioning of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria South South Zonal office in Uyo.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, the governor stated that by the official opening of the South South office to the public, the issue of fake and unwholesome pharmaceutical products would be put on check.
He said with the South- South office becoming operational, the standard of healthcare would be high as only genuine pharmaceutical products would be dispensed, hence incident of death occasioned by fake and adulterated drugs would be a thing of the past.
To this end, he solicited the cooperation of pharmacists and allied care givers to make Akwa Ibom state free from fake drugs and unwholesome products.
Chief Akpabio thanked the contractor of the project, Dr Bello Ja Osagie for completing the contract on time, adding that, Akwa Ibom deserves the honour to play host to PCN having produced great pharmacists like Senator Eme U. Ekaette.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Louisa Ukpe, expressed gratitude to PCN for the choice of Akwa Ibom as the zonal headquarters of the council.
She hoped that with the siting of the zonal headquarters of the PCN in the state, activities of quacks will be drastically reduced, if not completely eliminated.
Earlier, the chairman of the governing council of PCN, Prof E.N. Sokomba used the occasion to first of all thank President Yar’Adua for the budgetary allocations which made it possible for the project to be completed under 12 months.
He stated that the goal of establishing zonal offices in the six geo-political zones was to regulate distribution of genuine drugs, check fake, counterfeit and sub-standard drugs.
