W/Bank Spends N1bn On Water Project In Calabar

The World Bank has spent about $70 million (about N10 billion) on the rehabilitation and expansion of piped water system in Calabar metropolis.
Mr Andrew Makoha, leader of mid-term review team for the second national urban water sector reform project, a World Bank project, disclosed this is Calabar while on a courtesy call on lLiyed Imoke, Cross River State Governor.
Makokha noted that the Ikom, Ogoja and Obudu water projects will start as soon as documentation is concluded and commended the state for adopting public private partnership (PPP) in its urban likter Distribution programme, nothing that the PPP introduced by the state in its urban water programme is a model which should be emulated by other states.
He said the World Bank intends to work with the state to ensure increased connections and suitable water supply to the people at affordable rate. He commended the level of work done by the state’s water board adding that the World Bank would look into it with a view to addressing areas that pose challenges for improvement.
