Rivers Nurses Begin Training On Health Dev.

As part of efforts to improve the healthcare delivery system in the state, the Rivers State Ministry of Health has commenced a one month training programme on capacity building for Nurses in the state. Speaking at the occasion, the Director of Nursing Services, Ms. Otonye Alabere said the essence of the training programme was to improve the quality of nursing care in health institutions. “There is need for capacity building because training and retraining of our nurses will definitely update their knowledge and skills to ensure quality service delivery.” She said that is to make sure that our nurses are in line with what is obtainable in western countries in the nursing profession.” According to the Director of Nursing Services the training programme is compulsory for all nurses in the state government employment, saying that “knowledge often becomes obsolete with time because of innovations. “Training of this magnitude will be a continuous process to achieve optimal performances from our nurses,” she added. The Director of Nursing Services further stated that the training would be in four batches and each batch will be trained for one week, adding that, there would be a clinical session at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital. She appealed to all unit heads to make proper arrangement to ensure that all government nurses attend the training without leaving the wards and hospitals empty. Tonye Orabere
