The Tide gathered that navigation equipment which include Instrument Landing System (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) and VHF Radio at Murtala Mohammed Airport were first to be calibrated airport navigational equipment last Wednesday.
The Dakar-based firm “ASECNA” will as well calibrate other airports in the country. The exercise which is expected to last for nine days will cover airports, in Owerri, Ilorin, Abuja, Kano, Sokoto, Yola and Maiduguri.
This is the second routine maintenance of navigational equipment undertaken this year by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), costing the Agency about N50 million each.
The Agency managing Director, Alhaji Ibrahim Auyo had promised Nigerians that the Agency will continue to put the navigational aids at the various airports in perfect condition in line with the industry safety standard.
Alhaji Auyo said currently all the navigational equipment of the Agency in the various airports are in top standard and functional, noting that the coming hajj flight and harmattan season would meet a better equipment.
