Illegal Structures At Old GRA, Amadi Flats To Go

As deadline given to property owners in old Government Residential Area and Amadi Flats for the correction of structures and out right removal of illegal structures expired 30th of last month, Rivers State Government says it is set to demolish all such structures still existing in the area.

A statement signed by the press secretary to the Commissioner, Ministry of Urban Development, Barrister Osima Gina and made available to The Tide , commended what it described as high level of compliance already achieved in the area. It, however, observed with dismay that some property owners have not complied with the directive and promise to visit such structures with government bulldozer.

The statement said the demolition exercise in the area would equally affect property owners who complied against specification.

“The Ministry of Urban Development Demolition Team will enforce the law on any property whose owner does not comply after the expiration of the grace period”, it said.

Also to be affected are structures especially fences not done in accordance to the required 2 metres height of 1.2 metre block base and 0.8 metre see through iron or wire gauge.

It enjoined the people of the state to support the government in its effort at controlling development and restoring the Garden City glory of Port Harcourt and Rivers State.
