ETF Disburses N7bn To Varsities
The Education Trust Fund (ETF) says it has concluded arrangement to disburse more than N7 billion to 57 universities before the end of this year.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Professor Mohmood Yakubu, stated this at the 2009 ETF Annual Strategic Planning Workshop organised for stock taking and strategizing for improvements in the education sector.
According to him each university would receive N127 million for library development, academic training and staff developing including research and publication.
He disclosed that the number of universities to benefit from the special intervention project would increase next year with the expected establishment of new universities in some states of the federation.
In his speech, Mr Chukwuemeka Ekreremadu said the workshop would help in building bases for interaction aimed at moving the education sector forward.
Mr Ekreremadu who is the chairman, Strategic Planning Committee of the conference urged the benefiting institutions to acquaint themselves with the recent special intervention projects by ETF to enhance efforts towards providing quality education in the country.
The Chairman of ETF Board of Trustees, Dr Musa Babayo noted that the fund had over the years addressed the problems in the education sector through special intervention.
Dr Babayo also pointed out that the workshop would review various intervention funds in the universities to ascertain ETF special intervention fund requirement
He assured that the agency would justify the confidence reposed in it through judicious use of resources.
