The Enugu State government has approved the purchase of seventeen units of vibrating rollers for the provision of rural access roads in the state at a cost of N300 million in partnership with the seventeen local government councils in the state.

Already, the state executive council has approved the release of its share of (N149,600,000.00) for the purchase of the road construction equipment while the seventeen local council areas of the state will pay their own part of the sum.

The state commissioner for information, culture and tourism Mr. Chuks Ugwoke, who disclosed  this at the end of the weekly state executive council meeting said that the equipments will be purchased under state government’s support programme to local governments to help speed up the rehabilitation and reconstruction of rural roads.

Mr. Ugwoke recalled that the administration had earlier purchased heavy duty road construction equipments including bulldozers and graders in partnership with the seventeen council areas of the state, adding that the equipment had helped in the opening up of the rural areas in the state.

According to him, the council chaired by the state governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime, also approved the purchase of additional three hundred taxi cabs under the “Coal City Cabs” scheme already operating in the state.

The commissioner,  said that the additional cabs would help to expand the scheme and ease intra-city movement in the state, adding that modalities for the giving out of the cabs had been worked out and advised those who have applied or would like to benefit from this government poverty reduction programme to meet the relevant government agencies and financial institutions for further directives.
