Abia Shores Up Revenue For Massive Projects Execution
Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has assured Abians that better days were ahead as his administration has mapped out plans to improve the revenue profile of the state which would be invested in capital projects.
“Very soon, you will witness changes in Abia,” he told the crowd that graced a civic reception in his honour by his Ibeku kinsmen last Saturday.
The ceremony held at Isieke Secondary School playground provided the platform for the Ibeku to urge Orji to go for a second term.
The governor said that the two years of legal battle for the governorship seat after his swearing in served as a major distraction but that he made the best of the circumstance and executed many projects. He assured that more projects would be executed to change the face of the state.
Particularly, the governor said that those criticising his administration over the poor state of infrastructure in Aba, particularly roads, would have a rethink when he launches massive road rehabilitation in the commercial city by the end of this month. He called on the people of the state to pay their taxes regularly to enable government to serve them better. He also said that civil servants who were in the habit of diverting government funds would be severely punished when caught.
He said construction work in Aba was put on hold to allow the rains to recede, adding that he was in power to make the masses happy.
To his Ibeku kinsmen, Orji urged them to unite and be their brothers’ keepers, warning that politicians of Ibeku extraction who were in positions of trust but have failed to assist others would be relieved of such appointments.
“This is a new era. You should no longer dissipate your energy fighting over land. You should now be engaged in political struggle for power,” Orji futher advised his kinsmen.
Earlier in his address, President-General of Ibeku Egwu Asaa Development Association, the umbrella cultural body of the Ibeku, Pastor Uzor Iheukwumere, said the people have resolved to give the governor their 100 per cent vote if he seeks a second tenure.
Iheukwumere said the were happy that the governor has done well in office and was a good ambassador of the Ibeku. He, however, asked for more amenities in Ibeku clan.
Also, chairman of the occasion, retired Justice Igbo Akomas, enjoined all the aides of the governor to give correcte advice to the governor to enable him to succeed.
Imo advised the governor to see the state as his constituency and should not discriminate against any section even as he urged him also go for a second term.
Senator Uche Chukwumerije, Pa Onyenso Nwachukwu, Sir Stanley Ohajuruka were among dignitaries who graced the ceremony.
