9th National Open Scrabble Competition Begins In PH
This ninth edition of the Port Harcourt National Open Scrabble Competition will commence on Friday at the Airforce Secondary School, Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
According to the National Director of the Scrabble Federation, Mr Mpaka Jack, the competition will run between Friday and Saturday.
He said that the two-day tournament is designed to promote scrabble culture in the city of Port Harcourt and the Niger Delta region.
The tournament will be played in three categories, the masters, Intermediate and the open.
Jack, who is also the South South zonal representative of the Federation added that the tournament and others like it would stimulate interest and attract more followers to the sport.
This edition, according to him is expected to see more people identifying with the indoor game.
Meanwhile, forms for the competition are currently on sale at the office of the secretary of Rivers State sports council and would end by Friday. Winners in the competition are expected to go home with a cash prize of N100,000 while others would get consolatory prizes.
