1st N’Delta Tourism, Cultural Fair Debuts In PH
In a bid to promote culture and tourism in the Niger Delta, the government of the nine states in the region has designed a programme tagged 1st Niger Delta tourism, cultural fair and exhibition aimed at developing the tourism industry by ensuring a comprehensive, united and effective representation at both the national and international levels in a view to ensure that appropriate macro strategies are adopted.
According to our source, the programme is a public partnership between the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation (NOA), Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Trade Wyse Concept Ltd and the nine states of the Niger Delta namely; Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Ondo, Edo, Delta and Imo States respectively.
The programme which is slated for 13th – 20th November 2009 in Port Harcourt and Uyo include exhibition/carnival, food festival, Niger Delta pageant, modelling fashion shows, Niger Delta orientation day, endowment fund raising/seminars to advise the government on all national matters concerning tourism which could affect the achievements of the tourism vision and strategy by formulating clear and measurable objectives.
It was further gathered that the project is a prelude that will culminate in tourism sites/skills development of youths in the Niger Delta and a post amnesty skills acquisition programme which has the full backing of government.
