… Set To Reposition Rivers Health Care

Government says it is determined to make Rivers State the hub of medicare in the country.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, stated this while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, recently.
The commissioner disclosed that although the state government is pursuing primary health care, it can only succeed when there is an effective referral system from the primary, secondary and the tertiary health care, hence the collaboration with UPTH.
He disclosed that his recent visit to the University of Port Harcourt has strengthened the bond between the state government and the Federal Government in the area of health care delivery, stating that a joint committee has been formed to facilitate collaboration between the state government and the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hopsital in Post Graduate Training of doctors.
The commissioner, who toured various departments of the hospital, expressed satisfaction with services rendered and congratulated management of UPTH for overcoming the power challenge that faced the hospital recently.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Dr. Urieh Etawo, disclosed that the hospital had a power problem which has been brought under control, stating that, the hospital is now fully functional.
He commended the state government for turning around the health care delivery system and expressed the readiness of UPTH to partner with the state government to achieve set goals.
