The Rivers State Government has expressed satisfaction with the success of the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) third quarter meeting in the South-South Zone held last month in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Secretary to the State Government, Hon Magnus Abbe, expressed government happiness when a three-man delegation of the NIREC Local Committee that organised the meeting paid him a thank-you visit in his office.
Hon. Abbe said that although he travelled during the meeting, he constantly monitored it. He commended the prudence of the committee which enabled it to organise the meeting with the resources available to it, saying that such prudence was in keeping with the State Government’s policy of inculcating the culture of financial responsibility.
Earlier in his briefing, the leader of the delegation and a coordinator of the meeting, Alhaji Chief Ahmad R. T. Okiri, told Hon Abbe that the tireless effort of the organising committee resulted in a huge crowd of Christian and Muslim participants from all the states in the South-South Zone.
Alhaji Okiri, who is the State Islamic Leader and Vice President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) on behalf of his fellow co-ordinator and chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Apostle G. D. Numbere, thanked Hon. Abbe for his prompt support without which the meeting would have been less memorable.
In a joint statement after a review meeting of the Organising Committee, Reverend Felix O. R. Ekiye and Alhaji Nasir A. Uhor, Chairman and Secretary respectively, commended the Government and people of Rivers State for their enthusiastic support.
The statement urged Muslims and Christians in the State to maintain and build upon the existing cordial relationship between them.
