NGO Holds Summit On Kalabari Education
A Non-Governmental Organisation, “Kalabari People’s Parliament” is billed to hold a summit geared towards educating the Kalabari child in the light of growing moral decadence in the society.
The one-day summit with the theme: “Re-engineering the education of the Kalabari child for strategic advantage; the role of the chief, politician and stakeholder”, is expected to complement the Federal Government’s decision on amnesty/disarmament of militants in the Niger Delta.
In a statement signed by the body’s co-ordinator, Selema Wokoma and Secretary, Deinso Membere, the body said the summit is its own means of positioning Kalabari youths and children through education.
Education, the statement said, “remains the key to development, hence the education of the Kalabari child needs re-engineering as we have lost enormous manpower/skills to the unrest and militancy in the Niger Delta struggle.
“It is, therefore, imperative that we inject a new paradigm for our holistic development and sustain the relative peace from the unrest in the wider Niger Delta.”
Scheduled to hold on the 16th of October in Buguma, headquarters of Asari Toru Local Government Area, the summit, according to Mr. Wokoma, is expected to re-orientate the Kalabari child and change his value system positively.
“The summit shall effect in the Kalabari child a positive attitudinal change with consequent collateral benefit of character transformation, value re-orientation, moral regeneration and productive consciousness as all hands perform their duties to the Kalabari child for a better tomorrow,” he said.
Dignitaries expected at the occasion are: His Royal Highness, Chief Odibo Clinton Tom-Big Harry, who will be the chairman of the occasion, while the distinguished guests of honour will be Rt Hon Tonye Harry, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Justice Karibi Whyte (Rtd).
