Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Julius Ucha, has said that the Senate was presently studying the recent executive bill which seeks to review the electoral act with a view to ensuring that justice is done to it.

Speaking with newsmen in Abakalili, Ucha who represents Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone however parried the question on whether Nigerian should look forward to having a completed electoral reform process before the 2011 elections, as he simply said what is more important is not the review of the constitution or total electoral reform but for Nigerians to be more patriotic.

The lawmaker who used the forum to applaud the federal government’s amnesty approach to solving the lingering crisis in the Niger Delta region stated that the development had shown that the government was committed to peace, development and stability in the troubled region.

He stated that the amnesty programme would help reduce armed robbery, kidnappings and general insecurity in the region adding that the amnesty project would reinstate peace, security and infrastructural development of the area.

“The programme is on course and the federal government is determined and committed to its success despite all the unsavoury criticisms by some Nigerians,” he said.
