Greater PH City: Authority Plans EIA On Affected Areas
The Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority will soon embark on an Environmental Impact Assessment on areas that falls within the development plan.
The Sole Administrator of the Authority, Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam disclosed this Friday at Ogu, headquarters of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Rivers State during a tour of the area by members of the Authority.
Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam said the purpose of the tour was to enable them have first hand information from the communities that fall within the development plan as to enable them have an easy Environmental Impact Assessment exercise.
She enjoined all hands to be on deck to fulfil their mandate of implementing the master plan of Greater Port Harcourt City and called on the various communities and local government areas that fall within the plan to co-operate and support the authority to ensure that the vision of the Governor Amaechi-led government becomes a reality.
The Sole-Administrator also hinted that the survey exercise to define the affected areas would soon begin, adding that the authority would hold a workshop on Environmental Impact Assessment this week.
Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam however, lauded the people of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area for their peaceful disposition and enjoined them to maintain the tempo during the exercise.
Also speaking, chairman, Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Hon. Lawrence Abiebiari assured the authority that the people of the area were ready to partner with the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority to achieve set objectives.
Represented by the Council Secretary, Hon. Minaseichinbo Fiberesima, Abiebari said Ogu/Bolo would always embrace development plans of the Rivers Sate Governor and commended the sate Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the vision to transform the affected areas to modern status.
The occasion was attended by Chiefs, Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Elders, Community and youth leaders.
Also in attendance were Hon. Anthony Ibifuro who spoke on behalf of Ogu, Hon. A. M. Frank, for Bolo, Hon. P. J. Wakama for Wakama-Ama while Rev. America Imbu Tamuno spoke on behalf of Ele Community, all in the local government.
