… Sets Up Committee For 2011 Elections

The Action Congress in Rivers State says it is positioning itself for the 2011 elections, as it has set up a Reconciliation and Strategy Committee to work out modalities to clinching the people’s mandate.
Chairman of AC in the state, Hon. Suange Bady who made the disclosure at the weekly phone-in programme organised by the Silverbird Communications Port Harcourt at the weekend said the party is poised to be one of the parties to be reckoned with come 2011.
The committees which includes Research and Strategy and Committee on Reconciliation is also set to check the cracks in the party.
Hon. Bade who affirmed that the party is extending hands to bring back old members of the party who had left in anger, especially Chief Kpagane, said there is need to keep the party intact to achieve its objectives.
He stated that the Research and Strategy Committee is mandated to work out ways to win more slots at the elections, while stressing that the party is a force to be reckoned with in the state.
The Rivers AC Chief also said the party is in support of the Coalition of Democratic Alliance for electoral reforms in the country. He argued that unless the reforms are implemented, elections in the country would be riddled with manipulation and rigging.
Hon. Bade said his party supports the demolition of the waterfronts because those areas are not fit for habitation.
He however submitted that the exercise need to be cautiously done. “Compensation is not just enough because they can’t go and begin to build immediately”, he explained.
The Rivers AC chieftain, who is also a member of the Governing Council of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) argued that he had initially kicked against the relocation of the University, but observed that the exercise in overdue.
Explaining his recent approval of the schools’ relocation, Hon Bade maintained that as an oil producing state, the university has become too small to accommodate the level of admission and research required of the state.
