Refuse Disposal:RSG Chides Contractors

The Rivers State Government has threatened to penalise any refuse and de-silting contractors who neglect his zone in the course of carrying out his duty.

Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Barrister Kingsley Chinda, who said this during a meeting with refuse and de-silting contractors in the state, urged them to take their jobs seriously.

Barrister Chinda expressed dismay over the deplorable condition of the environment, noting that the situation has shown that the contractors have no passion for the job. He thus urged them to sit up.

According to him, the ministry would not hesitate to make the necessary changes , if it discovers that their performances were below expectation.

He continued that the contractors must show enthusiasm in their jobs, saying that the ministry would carry out regular assessment of their performances.

He expressed the hope that no contractors will compromise standard us anyone who is found wanting would be penalised

Barrister Chinda also disclosed plan by the ministry to introduce bagging of refuse, but said awareness will be created before it takes off.

He continued that the ministry would soon come up with a tariff system of refuse collection and disposal.

Meanwhile, a new dumping time; 6pm to 12 midnight, has been introduced in the state.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of Obio/Akpor local government area, Hon. Solomon Abel Ekeh, urged the contractors to take their job seriously.
