Orji Assures On Teachers’ Salaries
Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State says teachers in the state would soon smile as plans have been concluded to offset their arrears of salaries.
Teachers in the state were being owed for about four months which the governor promised to clear in the next one month.
Speaking at Olokoro Primary School in Umuahia South Local Government Area during his visit to the area, Orji said “government is aware that some workers in the state are yet to receive their salaries,” adding that efforts were on to clear the backlog of salaries.
He blamed the inability of government to pay the salaries promptly to the economic meltdown in the country and urged Abians to be patient.
The governor said that as an ex-student of Sancta Crux Secondary School, Olokoro, he was aware of the various problems confronting the people of the area and assured that they will be addressed.
He used the forum to direct the Ministry of Public Utilities to ensure that Olokoro community was provided with potable water as his administration was poised to make an impact in every community in the state.
The governor announced that his government was plannig to bring more buses to alleviate the transport difficulty of the residents of the state.
He also announced the award of a university scholarship to a secondary school leaver who if the producer of “made- in-Olokoro car.”
Earlier, the Umuahia South council chairman, Pastor Goddy Kanu, told the governor that the local government was united and solidly behind him.
Also in an address, the President-General, Olokoro Welfare Association, Prof E.E Umebali, thanked the governor for giving Olokoro people a sense of belonging by appointing two of their daughters into his government and urged him to extend his infrastructural development to the area.
