ALGON Alerts Over Killings In Abia
Some politicians in Abia State now live in fear following the spate of attacks targeted at elected officials at recent times.
According to those who spoke to newsmen recently on the development, especially the 17 local government chairmen say they have resigned their fate to God because, “there is nothing else we do under these circumstances.”
The Tide found that in the last one month, a deputy chairman of Osisioma Local Government Area, Solomon Macho has been killed while the chairman of Aba South Local Government, Clement Erondu, narrowly escaped assassination but his driver and two security escorts died in a shootout.
We also discovered that other council chairmen, such as that of Isiala Ngwa South, Anthority Agbazuere, Obingwa Local Government boss, Kelechi Nwankpa among others have narrowly escaped death when their convoys were attacked by hired assassins and kidnap gangs wanting to abduct them for ransom.
The Tide further gathered that the determination to get rid of some of the council chairmen may not be unconnected with their determination to reduce the spate of kidnappings that had become a daily occurrence in Abia State, especially in Ukwa/Ngwa axis comprising nine local government areas of the state.
