Sylva Tasks NDU Over Erosion Menace
The Bayelsa State Government has tasked the Niger Delta University (NDU) Amasoma to evolve plans toward solving the menace of flood and erosion which threatens most communities in the state.
Gov Sylva gave the charge while inaugurating the Governing Council of the state-owned university for a second term in office.
Chief Sylva also urged the council to initiate ways through which the state forestry reserve could be controlled and managed effectively while also taking interest in the state agricultural programmes.
The Governor observed that the council had performed very well in transforming the NDU to be at par with its peers, hence the consideration for their re-appointment.
Towards this end, he said their reappointment should be regarded as an added advantage in an effort to make NDU one of the best institution of higher learning in the entire country.
Responding, chairman of the Board, Prof Kimse Okoko who showed appreciation for their re-appointment said the council would live up to its expectations, saying that already, the first two graduate programmes in the areas of engineering and science would soon take off in the school.
Other members of the Board are Prof. Francis Sikoki, Dr Emmanuel Denenu, Miss Margaret Agidi, Chief Douye Naigba, Dr Milton Ware and Mr. Eric Aworabhi.
