Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has charged members of Commonwealth Parliamentarian Association to address cases of violence and harmful practices against women and children on the continent.

Dame .Judith Amaechi gave this charge in a statement in Port Harcourt as the CPA conference enters its second week.

She said the Association would be doing a great service to the African continent if violence and inhuman treatment against women and children, were properly addressed.

In her words “violence and inhuman treatment on women and children have become a daily occurrence and on the increase. Consequently, it will be proper for our continental lawmakers to address them at this point of their conference”.

The governor’s wife stated that the success of any campaign against violence and harmful practice rests squarely on the lawmakers who are saddled with the responsibility of making good laws and repealing obnoxious ones, adding that a formal declaration at the Port Harcourt Conference and proactive action thereafter will go a long way in checkmating and winning the campaign.

The Rivers First Lady bemoaned that despite the various treaty and enactment on the rights of both women and children, some African countries still do not have the political will to implement them.

She enjoined the Parliamentarians especially the female to unite with women and other stakeholders against all forms of violence and injustice against women.
