The Leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Henry Okah, who regained freedom on Monday and was diagnosed for kidney related complication, is to receive treatment abroad

This was disclosed during his speech after he regained freedom. Okah who spoke through his lawyer, said he was glad to regain freedom from his 23 months of incarceration, adding that the federal government has agreed to pay his medical bills.

It would be recalled that the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) was arrested in Angola in 2007 over allegation of illegal arms dealing and was brought to Nigeria for prosecution.

He regained his freedom courtesy of the Federal Government amnesty offer to militants, who are offered the privilege of laying down their arms and embracing peace for sustainable development to reign in the region.

It was believed that the release of Henry Okah would pave way for peace to reign in the Niger Delta region.

But hours before his release, an oil facility in Lagos came under attack, and MEND had claimed responsibility for the attack which led to the death of five persons.
