The one-day old strike action embarked upon by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Labour Unions has been called-off.

This follows an emergency meeting by the FCT Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero and Coalition of Industrial Unions led by the National Chairman of the Radio, Television, Theatre Workers Union (RATTAWU) as well as the representatives of the FCT Labour Unions at the FCT Minister’s Conference Room in Garki District, Abuja.

During the meeting it was agreed that the FCT Administration would within three weeks make effort to address the lingering problem.

According to him, the funds would be sourced either from the Federal Government or through virement of the FCT Statutory budget by the National Assembly as the arrears had not been captured in the 2009 budget.

The minister assured the workers that the FCT Administration would do everything within its powers to pay the monetisation arrears; insisting that it is their entitlement not a privileged and therefore must be paid.

He reiterated that whatever the workers of the Federal Government have been paid, the FCT Administration workers would enjoy the same or even more.

The minister revealed that the worker would soon have a sigh of relief as the much publicised Abuja Light Rail would become operational within the next two to three years.

Senator Aliero emphasised that the nature of the Abuja Light Rail would be the first in West Africa.

Earlier, the National President of RATTAWU, Mr. Yemisi Bamgbose appreciated the honour to them and praised the non-confrontational posture of the FCT Minister.

He therefore, directed the workers to go back to work forthwith.
