Edo Begins Demolition Of Illegal Structures
As the Edo State Government intensifies its drive to rid the state of illegal structures, property owners affected have resorted to self-help by pulling down the structures.
Some landlords and corporate organizations whose structures were affected pleaded to remove the structures themselves.
A visit to some of the streets where the demolition is yet to start revealed some of the landlords engaging the services of carpenters and bricklayers to remove parts of the marginal line.
Many of them lamented that it was a painful experience to remove the structures themselves, but said they had to take the precautionary measures to salvage the remains of the properties.
Traders in the ever busy Forestry and Mission roads, who decried the situation due to displacement of some traders, said the bid to decongest the streets would make commuting within the city centre more pleasurable.
The Chairman on Task Force on Illegal Structures, Street Trading and Obstruction, Col Felix Onaiwu Egiebor, said the commitment of the task force was to bring back the original master plan of the state.
