The Rivers State Government has so far spent $2m (N300,000) on medical equipment at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (BMSH) in order to upgrade the standard for the hospital in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Rivers State, Dr Sampson Parker who stated this, Friday, during an inspection of equipment at BMSH by ace footballer, Kanu Nwankwo, explained that the money was used to purchase medical equipment at the reference laboratory and modular theatre unit of the hospital.

According to him, a Canadian firm, Clinotech Canada, procured the equipment for the hospital, as partners with the Rivers State Government.

Dr Parker explained that with the equipment, people with heart problems could be treated in the hospital as against the former situation when patients with heart-related problems were sent abroad for treatment.

On his part Kanu Nwankwo, Nigeria’s living football legend expressed satisfaction over the facilities.

Kanu who was on inspection tour of the facilities in the hospital said that “Kanu heart foundation is partnering with the Rivers State Government in treating people with heart related problems.

“The equipment I have seen here at the Modular theatre, reference laboratory and intensive care unit has never been found in any hospital in Nigeria. So I have decided to work with the hospital to treat people with heart problems instead of sending them abroad for treatment”.
