Imo Commends Italian Humanitarian Group
An Italian Humanitarian Agency has been commended by Imo State Government for partnering the state government in the provision of additional water projects in Akokwa, Ideator South Local Government Area of the State.
The State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, gave the commendation while addressing the executive members of the agency called “NK-FIT FOR LIFE” at the Government House recently.
Ohakim, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Petroleum, Emma Ahamefula, said his government is poised to partner various groups and agencies in providing basic infrastructure capable of improving the people’s standard of living in the rural communities.
He observed, that the New Phase of Imo Philosophy would always welcome laudable ideas and opportunities that come its way and aim at strengthening cooperation and integration between the state and donor agencies.
The governor noted that the group is among several other agencies that have offered projects and life improving programmes to the people and urged it not to relent.
Ohakim also urged the agency to extend the good gesture to Nigerians living in Italy to enhance the good bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Earlier, representative of the agency, Dr. Manilo Lorenzo, had said the agency was in the state on a verification exercise of the water borehole projects in addition to establishing good working relationship between the state and the Liguria region of Italy.
Lorenzo disclosed that Italy plans to site seven boreholes at Akokwa in Ideator South Local Government Area and requested the assistance of the state in the area of security to realise the projects as planned.
He, however, added that the Liguria region, Italy through Miss Nke Nwokeji, an indigene of Akokwa and the manager of “NK FIT FOR LIFE,” has set up several community inter-related projects aimed at giving a face lift to the facilities in the rural areas.
