Community Leaders Condemn Military Invasion Of Rivers


The Forum of Community Development Committees in Rivers State has condemned the action of the Nigerian Military during the Governorship election in Rivers State.
The Forum which said this in a communiqué at the end of its meeting in Port Harcourt also urged the fact finding committee to recommend the immediate resumption of collation of genuine result with the view to declaring the winner.
The communiqué which was jointly signed by the Coordinator General United Community Development Committee (UCDC), John Onwubualili and Secretary General, Hon. Thompson Benjamin also described the action of the Military during the election as unconstitutional.
The Forum described the situation as a breach on the fundamental rights of Nigerians to fair and free elections.
“The act of the Military men is a constitutional abomination. We condemned it totally because it is a breach to our fundamental rights”, it said.
The Forum also stressed the need for the Military to confine its activities to the barrack stressing that it is unacceptable for the military to now turn themselves into electoral officers.
The forum also commended Rivers people for remaining peaceful despite the provocative act of the military.
It also commended Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for his peaceful disposition and pledged the support of the forum to the Administration.
