Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said he is determined to restructure the country if elected into office in Saturday’s presidential poll, urging Nigerians to trust him as he remained a person that keeps his promise.
Atiku said this at the party’s presidential campaign rally which took place yesterday at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos and was attended by PDP leaders, faithful, among others.
They include his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi; the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki; PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; former deputy national chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George; former Governors Gbenga Daniel and Ayodele Fayose; member, BoT of PDP, Dr Remi Akitoye, Dr Doyin Okupe, Senator Adeyeye Ogunlewe, governorship candidate of the party in Lagos, Mr Jimi Agbaje; former Governor Idris Wada, Oladipupo Adebutu, among others.
Others are Captain Tunji Selleh, Dr Bimbola Ogunkelu, Mrs Grace Folasade Bent, among others.
This was just as Saraki, Secondus, wife the former vice president, Mrs Titi Abubakar, among others called on Nigerians to come out enmass on Saturday to vote the PDP candidate, Alhaji Abubakar, who they all said had the capacity to take the country and the citizens out of the present predicament that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had subjected them.
Abubakar, who described himself as a Lagosians having come to the city early in his life to hike a living, said with assurance that he was fully committed to fulfil his promise to restructure the country, create jobs and also ensure the establishment of a strong economy.
Besides, the PDP presidential candidate, who lamented the state of affairs in the country in area of security, economy, among others which, he said the ruling APC had promised to fix as part of their campaign promises in 2015 elections, equally assured that he would work with the National Assembly and the judiciary to uphold the rule of law in the country.
“Most of you here, I came to Lagos before you were born. I am a Lagosian. Let me assure you people of Lagos and the South- West, I am not like APC, when I promise to do something, am going to do it.
“I promise am going to restructure Nigeria, I will do it. I promise to create jobs, I will create jobs.
“APC promised security, but there is insecurity in the land. I will respect institutions of our country. I will work with the National Assembly, the Judiciary and uphold the rule of law,” he said.
“APC are not those you can trust. Today, they have failed Nigeria. They promised to provide strong economy but have instead turned Nigeria to capital city of poverty in the whole world,” the PDP presidential candidate added, assuring that he was resolved to reversing the perilous state the country had currently found itself.
“I will reverse that if elected into office,” he declared.
Speaking further, Alhaji Abubakar also called on Lagosians to come on March 2, 2019 and vote for the PDP governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, promising that electing Agbaje into office would make them witness the kind of wonderful things they had not come about in life.
“The people of Lagos, if you elect PDP governor, you will see wonders you’ve never expected. With PDP governor in office, no more traffic congestion. Vote PDP all the way,” he said.
PDP vice presidential candidate, Mr. Obi, who also spoke, applauded the party and Alhaji Abubakar, declaring that the party if voted into power would address all the problems confronting the country and make it work it for the betterment of Nigerian citizens.
In his own remark, the Senate President, Saraki said Alhaji Abubakar was set to reposition the country as he possessed the capability to do it, urging Nigerians to vote him, to enable him do just that come this Saturday, even as he also lamented the poor state of affairs in the country.
According to him, the PDP candidate will provide better economy, create jobs for the Nigerian teeming youths, declaring: “This is the way, it is finished for Buhari.”
“God has stamped Atiku’s presidency and that is how it is going to be,” he said.
PDP National Chairman, Prince Secondus, while also decrying the situation in the country, assured that the party’s presidential candidate would bring back life to Nigeria’s economy as he possessed the required capabilities to achieve that feat.
“Atiku is the man that would bring back the economy, he has the energy, he has the capability, he would provide jobs, open all industries that have been closed, bring prosperity to the land, including Lagos,” he said.
Speaking further, “On the 2nd of March, that is the day of freedom for Lagos, vote for your man, a Lagosian, a man that has the capacity to do it, Jimi Agbaje.”
The party boss affirmed that PDP was now in charge and had equally gained momentum all over the country, declaring that Alhaji Abubakar was winning the election while the APC was desperate.
This was just as Secondus described the Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, as the worst governor in the country, decrying the statement the governor had made in respect of the foreign observers who might care to come and monitor the coming polls.
According to him, threatening the foreign observers with statement that they would become “body bags” if care was not taken was unfortunate, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute him (el-Rufai).
“Is el-Rufai a terrorist? he queried, adding: “The world is watching. We want Buhari to prosecute el-Rufai. If not ICC would look for him.”
He, however, assured that PDP was winning the coming elections across the country, including Lagos, declaring that intimidation would not stop the party from claiming the victory unlike what happened in Ekiti, Osun, Edo elections, among others.
Chief George, former Governors Daniel and Fayose, among others also took turn to rally support for the PDP presidential candidate, urging Nigerians to come all out and vote the party into office for a positive change, with Fayose ending his short speech with sing that goes this way: “Buhari will go and Osinbajo will follow him.”.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC), to list the Director General of the Buhari Campaign Organization and Minister of Transport, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for inciting violence with war songs at the All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential Campaign rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday, and asked Nigerians to hold him responsible should there be any break down of law during the election.
Disclosing this via his verified facebook handle, the National Publicity Secretary and Director, Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party condemned the alleged statement made by Amaechi.
In the statement, Ologbondiyan said, “The PDP notes that the threat of violence by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi which came few days after President Muhammadu Buhari called on his supporters to get ready to fight; as well as the threat by Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, who declared that members of the global democratic institutions working for peaceful elections will return to their countries in body bags, have all exposed APC’s plot against peaceful elections in Nigeria.
“It is completely reprehensible that Amaechi, who had the privilege of governing Rivers State for eight years, will resort to importation of thugs into the state and inciting violence, just because the people have rejected President Buhari and his party has no candidate in the state for the general elections.
“Nigerians understand Amaechi frustration as a salesman of a failed product, in President Buhari, which he also attested to in his leaked audio recording, but seeking to vent this frustration on the peace-loving people of Rivers state is totally unacceptable.
“Amaechi should have understood that Nigerians, across the board, have rejected President Buhari and reached a consensus to elect the people’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as the next President of our country.
“He should know that no form of intimidation, enticement or blackmail can change that reality.
“The PDP, therefore, urges Nigerians to hold Amaechi and the APC responsible should there be any breakdown of law and order in River State or any other part of our country, before, during and after the elections.”
Similarly, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has requested the security agencies and other relevant agencies to keep record of all the threats and inciting comments of the Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on the 2019 general elections in Rivers State.
The state PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, raised the alert against the backdrop of Amaechi’s unequivocal threat at the APC presidential rally today at Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium, Port Harcourt where he, (Amaechi) said he was solely relocating to Rivers State for a fight during the election.
Amaechi, according to the state PDP chairman, may not be alone in this plot as another APC chieftain in the state; Tonye Princewill had earlier revealed that the APC would be lawless during the elections in the state.
Obuah recalled a similar threat by Amaechi in 2016 during the re-run elections when in collaboration with security agencies Amaechi unleashed mayhem on Rivers people, an incident that claimed several lives of innocent persons in the State.
Warning that the Rivers people abhore blood-letting in whatever disguise, the state PDP boss said the state would no longer accept such act of hooliganism from whoever or whatever quarters, and urged the security agencies not to look the other way as before, while Amaechi had a field day exterminating “our people” in the name of election
“A stitch in time saves nine,” Obuah noted.
