Court Remands Bus Driver Over Robbery


A 36-year-old commercial bus driver, Charles Inibu, was yesterday remanded in prison for allegedly stealing two mobile phones worth N55, 000 while armed with a screw driver.
Inibu, whose residential address was not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on armed robbery before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Ope-Agbe, ordered that the accused be remanded pending the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case until March 13.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 8, stole two mobile phones valued at N55, 000 from a passerby on Lekki-Epe Expressway.
“The defendant while driving a commercial bus marked AAA 9324 A, armed himself with a screw driver and robbed one Toki Omotayo of his Nokia and Samsung phones, all valued at N55, 000,” Osuji said.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 297 (2) and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
