Beyond Onnoghen’s Suspension

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, on January 25, 2019, suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, accusing him (Onnoghen) of failing to declare his assets as prescribed by law.
The suspension has attracted a cacophony of views and catalogue of protests condemning it as unconstitutional, despotic with Islamic undertone that threatens the nation’s democracy.
The Senate sees the suspension as a violation of the constitution and a disregard to the power of the nation’s Upper House with respect to the suspension of the CJN.
The Red Chamber had approached the Supreme Court for a declaration that the suspension of the CJN by the President from office without an address calling for two-thirds majority of the Senate is in violation of section 292 (1) (a) (i) of the Constitution and, therefore, null and void.
The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) on Wednesday, January 30th, added its voice by staging a protest against the suspension of Justice Onnoghen. The Forum described the decision as an Islamic agenda and called on Nigerians to mobilize themselves to resist such an ideology in the country.
Since its inception, the NCEF has consistently sought to enlighten Nigerians that the problem of this country is simply the conflict between democracy and Sharia. Until Nigerians understand that a section of the country is determined to truncate democracy and enthrone Sharia as the national ideology, they would not be able to address the recurring conflicts in the country.
It further stated that “all Islamists are Muslims, all Muslims are not Islamic. The Islamic has no regard for human rights, they detest democracy and do not want Western education. This is why ‘Boko’ is Haram and they hold tenaciously to the doctrine of “Sacred Space” which claims that all the earth has been given in perpetuity to Muslims by Allah. That explains why a grazing reserve would become a grazing colon and why death and destruction have been unleashed in the Middle Belt and on Christian communities in Northern parts of Nigeria. All those calamities occur because some people believe all the land in Nigeria is their property.
The Islamists are driving dual Fulanization and Islamization agenda in Nigeria. Meanwhile the other ethnic nationalities still appear oblivious of the issues playing out in their country.
According to NCEF “the recurring distress in Nigeria is due to the fact that the country elected a president on the platform of democracy who proceeded to run the country with Sharia ideology. It is only with this awareness that the discriminatory and sectional policies of the present administration can be understood. The appointment of only Muslims from the North into sensitive positions and the flagrant violation of Federal Character Principle in the constitution is not democracy but Sharia. It is Sharia that is at the root of the Jihad that has been launched in the country. Nigerians should realize that there is a deliberate attempt by the Islamists to truncate the constitution and replace it with Sharia as the source of legislation. It is with this as background that the questionable suspension of Justice Onnoghen should be situated. The “judicial coup” is not only against the judiciary, but also the constitution that is under attack and, with it, the sovereignty of the Nigerian state as a democratic nation.
The forum urged Nigerians to resist the terrible intentional infraction of the constitution and, in this case, involving the CJN noting that the larger picture should not be overlooked or else the Islamists will surreptitiously back down on this case and concentrate on winning the 2019 elections and launch virulent attacks on democracy. It should not be forgotten that in August last year, a “coup” was planned against the National Assembly and Nigerians can now attest that Islamists are relentless.
There is no gainsaying the fact that President Buhari is subtly implementing the resolutions of Islam in Africa Organization (IAO) and the Organisation of Islamic Conference (0lC) in Nigeria of which Nigeria was formally enrolled as full member with a donation of US$ 21 billion to the Islamic Development Fund of OIC.
It will be recalled that participants at the IAO conference in 1989 resolved, among others, “to ensure the appointments of only Muslims into strategic national and international posts of member nations, to eradicate in all forms and ramifications all non-Muslim religions in member nations, to ensure that only Muslims are elected to all political posts in member nations, to ensure the ultimate replacement of all Western forms of legal and judicial systems with the Sharia in all member– nations, etc”.
Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) once noted and wrote that by the appointment of Yusuf Magaji Buchi as new DG of Department of State Security (DSS) the entire security architecture and apparatus of Nigeria is predominantly and wholly dominated by one section of the country. Thus about 16 out of security appointees hail from President Buhari’s section of the country. From the Minister of Internal Affairs, IGP, DG NIA, DG DIA, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, to the Comptrollers-General of Customs, Immigration, Prisons, Federal Fire Service, Commandant-General of NSCD, Attorney-General of the Federation, the story is the same with mostly Muslims.
Other key national positions Acting-Chairman EFCC, SGF, Chief of Staff to the President, MD NNPC, Minister of Petroleum Resources (PMB himself) head of DPR, PEF, NPA, FAAN, NCAA, NRC, National Security Printing and Mining Company, AMCON, NDIC, NAICON. In fact Nigeria has been totally northernized.
Also peep into NBC, NTA, INEC, FERMA, FRCN, NOA, NHIS, NTDA, TETFUND, UBEC, NPHDA, NCC, NACA, NIMT, BPE, NOSDRA, NUC, Accountant-General, NEMA, Budget office, NIRSA.
From the above revelations, there is more that meets the eye than the suspension of the CJN by President Muhammadu Buhari.
