RSG Offers Young Golfer Scholarship

Rivers State Government has promised to award scholarship to Miss Christy Obomanu throughout her secondary school education.
Commissioner for Sports in the State, Hon. Boma Iyaye said this yesterday in his office, shortly after he received the trophy she won at the 5th Dr. Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf Championship, Lagos State.
He urged her to continue to build her career and academics, saying that the ministry of sports would always encourage her to be successful.
“ As ministry what we can do for you is encourage you and make sure that you do not have issues with your academics.
We will pay your school fees and take care of your up keep, besides, I will work out modalities with ministry of education and scholarship board,” Hon. Iyaye said.
The number one sports man in the State further advised her to be dedicated to the sports she love much.
“ As far as am concern you are world champion. One day you will remember that someone has told you that you will become a world champion,” he stated.
Earlier, the mother of Obomanu, Judith A. Obomanu, appealed to the State government to build golf course to enable upcoming golfers learn how to play golf.
According to her, over 140 participated at the just concluded Dr. Awa Ibrahim junior golf championship, which Christy Obomanu, emerged winner of her under 10 category.
“ Christy started playing golf at the age of three and I followed her up, as a matter of fact she is not the only child I am training, “ Obomanu said.
She further disclosed that Christy will attend another tournament at Akwa Ibom, best of that tournament would be invited to national junior golf camp.
