A property developer and Chief Executive Officer,UT Financial Services Limited, Ade Adebajo has urged the Rivers State Government and other state governments to partner the private sector in the provision of homes for the low income earners.
Adebayo said that government must get involved with the private sector for the provision of housing for the low income earners, which, he noted, is a strategy that works.
The UT Financial boss who disclosed this in an interview with aviation correspondents at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagua weekend, noted that one strategy that has worked for the sector which is being practiced in other places is that government must get involved with the private sectors in this issue of housing for the low income earners.
“According to him, my basic suggestion which I am proposing to a lot of governors is that they should make land available to us. There is a lot of vast land.
“Civil servants, teachers and other low income earners cannot afford to buy expensive houses. If the governments provide land for organizations like ours, we will bring the money in.
“The most important thing is that we will build at a minimal costs, and that is why the government must be involved, because the aim is to reduce cost for the civil servants.
“It will be an agreement between government and us, and they will ensure that we do not sell at a high cost, so that it can be affordable.
“We know that civil servants might not be able to pay instantly, and so we will give them on a mortgage terms for at least a period not less then 10 years, and the amount will be deducted from their salaries, and that is the way to go about it”.
