Court Remands Man In Custody Over Kidnapping


A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court presided over by the Chief Magistrate, Sir Sokari Andrew-jaja has remanded in prison custody one Mr. Ifeanyi-chukwu Nwano over an alleged kidnaping.
Mr. Ifeanyichukwu, a 33 year-old-man who reside, at No 4 Avenue Egbelu Community Ogbogoro Road, Obio/Akpor Local Government of Rivers State has been accused of kidnaping of one Christy Kenneth Ohaeri.
The accused is being tried on two count charge of conspiring to commit felony to wit kidnap of Christy Kenneth Ohaeri which is a punishable offence contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Rivers State 1999.
He is also accused of kidnapping Christy Kenneth and demanded and collected the sum of three hundred thousand naira (N300,000) as ransom before releasing her which is also a punishable offence contrary to Section 1 (2) of Rivers State Kidnap Prohibition Amendment Law 2015.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The chief magistrate, however, remanded the accused in prison custody and referred the case to the Rivers State Director of Public Prosecution for advice and also adjourned the case to the 16th day of August for hearing.
