We Want Only People With Track Records For Election -Analyst

A sports analyst, Tayo Balogun, yesterday said that individuals seeking election or re-election into the various national sport federations should have a track record of performance.
Balogun spoke against the backdrop of the tenure elongation for Presidents of sports federations to 12 years as against the earlier proposed two terms of eight years.
Tidesport source reports that the amendment was part of the guidelines for the 2017 election into the various sports bodies in the country.
“I’m not against or in support of tenure elongation, what is key is performance and that should be the criteria for election or re-election into any federation.
“It is not how long you stay in a position that matters but your impact and contributions will speak volume for you.
“President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation is one of the few presidents that deserve to remain in that position if he wishes to seek re-election because of his impact on the sport.
“But some who have spent close to eight years cannot boost of any achievement or whatsoever in their federations and are not ready to leave the position for proactive individuals.
“So, the bottom line is for the person to be relevant,” he said.
He urged the Ministry of Sports to create a forum where underperformed presidents and executive members of boards of the federations could be booted out of office.
Balogun said such forum would dissuade incompetent aspirants from vying for positions.
