House Wife In Custody For Killing Husband With Acid

A 40 year old house
wife, Cathrine Michael from Delta State has been remanded in prison custody, for allegedly killing her husband with an acid substance, with charge sheet number PMC/226C/14.
The accused, is standing trial on one count charge of murder before Chief Magistrate I.F. Iyiabo.
The Police Prosecuting Officer, Insp. Wilson Isaiah told the court that the accused person on the 10th day of January, 2014 at NITEL Road, Mbiama in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did unlawfully murder one Michael Ovus by pouring a substance suspected to be acid all over his body.
The Police Prosecutor further told the court that it was as a result of the acid poured on the deceased by his wife that led to his death, adding that the accused committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol, 11, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
In his ruling, the Presiding Chief Magistrate Court 2, Ipalibo F. Iyiabo while remanding the accused in Port Harcourt Prison averred that the court lacked the jurisdiction to try the matter.
He however, told the accused that she had the opportunity to apply for her bail at the High Court and directed that the file be forwarded to DPP for legal advice. The case was later adjourned to 3rd April, 2014 for mention.
