‘Egi Communities Yet To Recover From 2012 Flood’
The President-General of Egi People’s Assembly (EPA), a socio cultural organisation of Egi ethnic nationality in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Oris Onyiri has revealed that majority of the people affected by last year’s flooding were yet to recover from the trauma.
Chief Onyiri Stated this over the weekend while addressing representatives of Egi communities at Obite during the visit of international investors on the Egi MGJ float Glass Project.
“Most people affected by last year’s flood across all Egi community are yet to recover and we are trying our best to resettle them, but lack of adequate finace is hindering us,” he said.
Chief Onyiri, a former secretary of the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that as this years rainy season sets in fully with the prediction by NIMET of another flood the organisation was at a loss on how to tackle the impending disaster.
According to him, “as the Egi Flood Disaster Management Team (EFDMT) prepares for the eventuality of this year , we call on corporate organisations non-governmental organisations, individuals and friends to support the communities to cushion its impact.”
He lamented the destruction of a full blown firm that cost millions of naira by the flood.
He said his organisation would welcome any individual or corporate body that was willing to partner in restoring the industry.
He however, urged the people to have confidence, understanding as well as cooperate with any national or multinational investors that have shown interest to invest in promoting the economic well being of the people.
