At the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, Dolphins will host impressive Gombe United in what is expected to be an explosive encounter, while Sharks travel up north to tango with Elkanemi Warriors in Maiduguri.
For Dolphins, today’s match is another opportunity to continue the climb up the league log, especially, after their recent impressive run, culminating in their maiden away point from Ilorin last weekend.
Coach Stanley Eguma had recently promised consistent improvement from the team after the early season hiccups that threatened their season.
Gombe United will come determined to up set Dolphins recent remarkable run with its usual aggression and antics.
Despite the visitors’ third position on the table, their victories have been at home while their away games have all ended in losses.
It is important that Dolphins ensure that the status quo remains today by adding to their poor record on the road.
For Sharks, it is indeed going to be a tough one for them against Elkanemi, especially as regards the security situation in Borno State.
It was reported midday yesterday that the team was stranded around the outskirts of Bauchi State owing to the 24 hour curfew imposed on the towns in Borno State.
Except in Maiduguri, where 12 hour curfew exist as at yesterday, other towns are under 24 hour curfew.
Efforts to reach the team on phone proved abortive but an inside source at the Rivers State Ministry of Sports disclosed that efforts were on to ensure the team’s safe passage to Maiduguri.
It now behoves on the officials and players of the team to remain focused, overcome the psychological trauma and leave Maiduguri with good result.
