The Director-General, National Information Technology
Development Agency (NITDA), Prof. Cleopas Angaye, on Monday advised Information
Technology outsourcing providers to build their services on trust and
Angaye, who was represented by Dr Ashiru Daura, Director of
Software and Outsourcing, NITDA, gave the advice in Lagos at the First West
Africa IT Outsourcing Conference and Exhibition.
Angaye said that building services on trust and credibility
would make IT outsourcing contribute the desired quota to the country’s Gross
Domestic Product (GDP).
He said India controlled 50 per cent of the world’s
outsourcing market and attributed the country’s success to outsourcing
providers building their services on trust and credibility.
The director-general said that for Nigeria to be successful
like India in outsourcing services, it must address the problem of
infrastructure that would boost IT services.
He said outsourcing providers needed to address the
challenge of cost, which was the major reason why most businesses did not
outsource IT services.
He said that the conference was designed to link businesses
with service providers involved in IT outsourcing and promote innovations in
many areas of information technology.
‘’Ultimately, the exhibition will provide the platform for
exhibitors and visitors to share the latest developments in IT outsourcing,’’
He said that NITDA was keen about outsourcing, not only
within Nigeria but across Africa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that NITDA in July
inaugurated an umbrella body called Nigeria Association of Information
Technology Enabled Outsourcing Companies (NAITECOM) to coordinate the IT
outsourcing sector of the economy.
Angaye said that NAITECOM was necessary for the effective
facilitation of advocate efforts at advancing the growth of outsourcing
business in Nigeria.
