The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in the just- concluded April 26 gubernatorial elections in Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia was yesterday interrogated by detectives of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Rivers State Police Command over alleged assault on the President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Peter Esele during the April governorship elections in the state.
Although the interrogation at the CID headquarters lasted for several hours, his appearance came two days after the date of his invitation by the police.
The police had earlier invited Sir Celestine Omehia to appear before it last Tuesday to answer questions in connection with the alleged assault on the TUC President.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam in a telephone interview with The Tide said that the APGA governorship candidate, Sir Celestine Omehia’s appearance at the state CID was based on the earlier invitation to him by the police.
The police image maker, however, said that investigations on the matter were on-going.
Meanwhile, the Spokesperson of APGA in Rivers State, Mr Barth Emokpari said Sir Celestine Omehia as a law-abiding citizen obeyed the invitation of the police.
Mr Emokpari said that Sir Omehia made useful statements to the police.
It would be recalled that the TUC President, Comrade Esele and members of his entourage monitoring the April gubernatiorial election in the state were allegedly attacked by political thugs loyal to the APGA gubernatorial candidate, Sir Celestine Omehia in his home town Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. congratulating Hon Sunny Edema as Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Council, in Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday.”]
