PDP Produces Two Guber Flagbearers In Abia

Two governorship flag bearers last Monday emerged from parallel governorship primaries held by  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in Abia State last Monday.  They are Governor Theodore Orji  and Chief Ikechi Emenike.

  While Orji won the primaries conducted by the election committee set up by the National Secretariat of the party held at the Umuahia Township Stadium and supervised by Angela Mba as Returning Officer, the Chief Ben Etie-led faction’s primaries held at the Nkwoegwu Civic Centre with Proffessor Mba Uzoukwu as Returning Officer, produced ChiefIkechi Emenike.

In the different primaries which were peaceful and transparent, Orji polled 706 votes from 723 accredited delegates after his challenger, Chief Tony Enwereuzor, had stepped down; 12 votes were voided while Emenike secured 632 of the 641 accredited delegates with 11 votes voided.

While commending the delegates for their orderly conduct, declared Emenike as the PDP Governorship flag bearer in Abia  State and presented the party’s flag to him.

On receiving the flag, Emenike commended, Chief Etie delegates for being peaceful, adding that he was optimistic of victory at this year’s Gubernatorial polls.

He said the days of the present government were numbered, adding that no amount of intimidation from them would deter him from pursuing his political ambition.

At the Stadium, the Governor said he was thrilled by the smooth conduct of the exercise, adding that by the victory, Abia People have spoken.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Abia, Austine Okogie, led his officers from INEC to monitor the .primaries at the stadium.
