Firm Gets Directive To Open Blocked Channel
The Rivers State Government has directed JDP Construction Company Nigeria Limited to immediately open up all blocked sections of an extension of the Okrika River to ensure free flow of rain water to avert flooding in the area.
Giving the directive in Okrika, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker explained that the cause of the flooding may not be unconnected with the blocking of parts of the river by the company to enable it construct a bridge as part of the Okrika ring road project being done by the state government through JDP.
Parker said that immediately the blocked areas were opened for free flow of rain water, the problem of flooding in parts of Ogoloma would become a thing of the past since according to him the bridge has been completed.
The State Health boss therefore appealed to the people affected by the flooding incident to remain calm.
Also speaking on the development, the Okrika Council Chairman, Hon. Tamunokuro Oba said that he had earlier complained to the company on the blockages without appropriate response from the construction firm.
Oba who expressed gratitude to the state government for the directive with a view to ensuring that the flooding did not reoccur, thanked the people of Ogoloma for not taking laws into their hands as a result of the incident.
