The Osun Government is to spend N5bn on the completion of the state’s Free Trade Zone project.
Gov Olagunsoye Oyinlola said this in Osogbo on Friday while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Commerce who visited the state.
Represented by Alhaji Kazeem Adio, Secretary to the State Government, the governor said N1.6billion had already been spent on the project.
Oyinlola said the project was being established to provide alternative means of income generation other than federal allocation.
He said the trade zone, to be run by private sector operators, would provide jobs for many unemployed youths.
Earlier, the committee’s Chairman, Sen. Joel Ikenya, had lauded the governor for his foresight in embarking on the project.
He called on other state governments to emulate Oyinlola, saying reliance solely on federal allocation could affect developmental efforts.
Ikenya urged the state government to work toward the completion of the project in October.
