The petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has approved the construction of a new department building for the Department of chemical/Petrochemical Engineering at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Nkpolu.
Delivering the building site to Yolas consultants recently, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Barineme Fakae, expressed appreciation to the management of PTDF for choosing RSUST as one of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria to benefit from the project, adding that the state-of-the-art equipment envisaged for the department would boost the study of petrochemical engineering in the University.
Prof Fakae noted that the management of the University had already studied the architectural and structural design of the proposed building and came up with some modifications.
Considering the terrain of the state, inorder to gurantee adequate functionality and suitability of the building on completion.
Mr. Uzo Mbanefo of Yolas consultants noted that the firm handling the construction of the building, explained that PTDF as a government agency was primarily concerned with the development of manpower in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
Mr. Mbanefo, explained that the project in RSUST will cover, among other things the construction of the departmental building, the provision of ancillary facilities such as borehole, surface and overhead tanks, generator and transformer.
Other facilities according to him, will include the supply and installation of Information Technology facilitates, books, Laboratory, workshop and Library equipment .
However, he hinted that the work on the building will commence immediately and that the project is expected to be completed within one year.
