Governor Akpabio Commissions Water Project


The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, has commissioned a water project initiated and executed by an illustrious son of Ajaha Offiong community, Engr Akanimo Udofik.

Commissioning the water project over the weekend, Chief Akpabio, expressed hope that the water project will put to an end the perennial scarcity of water hitherto experienced in the community.

Chief Akpabio, who noted that water constitutes over 75 per cent of the body constitution remarked that by giving this essential element, man’s life, Akanimo has provided his people with life.

He, therefore, called on other well-to-do indigenes of Akwa Ibom State to emulate the good example of Engr. Udofia by looking for what they can do to touch their lives directly, rather than dissipate their energy on frivolous petition writing.

Thnking the donor for the provision of the infrastructure which he said has coincided with his vision, the Governor said he was ever willing to commission more of such projects whenever he was called upon.

“If any one of you wants to commission any people-oriented project, please call me. I like to commission projects, attend marriages because they bring love” he stated.

He advised parents to teach their children on how to do good adding that Obong and Obonganwan Udofia should be the ones to be celebrated because they inculcated in their child (Akan) the spirit of selflessness.

He acknowledged the chieftaincy title of Iberedem Afaha Ofiong conferred on him by the community earlier in the year and promised that he will give Nsit Ibom local government a general hospital before his exit.

Akpabio explained that his administration decided to invest in free and compulsory education of the youths to banish poverty and fight to the hilt the monster called militancy and kidnapping in the state.

The chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Musa Gidado, who is the general manager of Total Nig Limited advised that the donor be given a pride of place to encourage him to continue to serve the more.

Describing him as a man who respects everybody irrespective of their social standing, Gidado commended him for striving in his own little way to better the lives of his fellow citizens.

He also solicited in the one-week free medical treatment in which 75 out of 600 patients were successfully operated upon, while others received various clinical attentions.
